Identification Requirements
Notaries are required to keep records of clients and confirm their identification.
Please ensure you bring the following items:
Photographic Identification
This can include an unexpired passport, driver’s license, or national identity card.
Proof of Address
This should be dated within the last three months and may include a utility bill or bank statement. If you do not have these documents, please reach out to us for guidance on how to fulfil our requirements.
For corporate or business clients, notaries must not only verify personal identity but also confirm the existence of the company or organization you represent, as well as your authority to act on its behalf. For companies located in the United Kingdom, the notary generally performs his own checks to verify the company’s status. For overseas companies or organizations, you may need to provide specific documents, such as:
- Certificate of Incorporation
- Extract from the Company Register
- Certificate of Good Standing
- Latest Report and Audited Accounts
- Up-to-date Certified Copy of Partnership Agreement
- Evidence of regulation by a governing body, such as the Law Society or FSA
If the notary needs to verify your authority to represent a company or organization, additional documentation may be required, including:
- Constitutional Documents (e.g., Memorandum and Articles of Association)
- Power of Attorney
- Chamber of Commerce Certificate
- Board Resolutions
- Authorised Signatory Book (for banks)
Your notary will be happy to provide details on the specific documents needed for your situation.
Additional information may be required when dealing with business clients to ensure a thorough company verification process.
